Israeli medical insurance is mandatory for all students. Israeli hospitals will not accept insurance from other countries.
Those individuals that have insurance in a country other than Israel are required to pay the hospital and most doctors in full before they will be treated. (Later, they can file for reimbursement from their insurance company, if their companies allow for this.) This is why we require Israeli medical insurance - to ensure you proper medical attention in the case of an emergency.
She'arim has arranged for students to purchase coverage for $1a day. This does not cover pre-existing conditions or pregnancy. Students may be insured for any length of time. The cost for older students and married students will be more.
There is a plan that will cover some pre-existing conditions. This plan cost $5 a day. If you have a pre-existing condition please contact us to help you work out the best option. (If you are taking a regular medication, it might be advisable to bring enough medication with you to take care of your medical needs while in Israel.)
Married women are not covered for pregnancy by the $1 a day insurance. It might be best to have insurance from home that will cover this happy situation. (We are in the process of trying to obtain insurance to cover pregnancy. If you are married, please be in touch with us close to your departure date.)
