Bat Mitzvah Memories Album
As part of the Bat Mitzvah celebrations, we sent out letters soliciting memories from our over 1650 alumnae. The response was beyond our expectations. Alumnae from every year of She’arim wrote short essays about their experiences, their feelings of gratitude and how She’arim changed their lives.
So many alumnae took the time to submit entries, pictures and essays, that the Memories Album became an attractive, full color 288 page book that crystallizes what made their stay in She’arim so special.
Reading these memories is like walking into a big hug! We laughed, we cried. We noticed recurring memories: the joy felt when dancing with a new Kallah, Rebbetzin Tavin singing Broadway hits as she teaches Women in Tanach, and the She’arim Purim seuda replete with singing, Purim Torah, giving of brachos to each other. The lessons and the inspiration were often mentioned of course, but more than that was the people who make up She’arim- the educators, the mentors and friends who share common dreams and hopes. Past and present staff communicated what they have learned from their students, the inspiration they feel in witnessing the devotion of these Jewish women who want to change themselves and in so doing, change the world.
The book ends with beautiful blessings and dedications from alumnae and friends, thanking She’arim for all the good they have derived, and blessings for continued success in educating Jewish women.
The Memory Album is truly an outpouring of love and of gratitude. As one alum sums it up, “I am thankful that Hashem granted me the gift of the warm, loving embrace of She’arim.”
